You must compare motives.

i just read bush's speech on CNN.com. (LINK!)

...[the] weapons of mass destruction are controlled by a murderous tyrant, who has already used chemical weapons to kill thousands of people. This same tyrant has tried to dominate the Middle East, has invaded and brutally occupied a small neighbor, has struck other nations without warning, and holds an unrelenting hostility towards the United States.

i could easily point this paragraph towards
the very country bush is speaking FOR.

As Americans, we want peace -- we work and sacrifice for peace -- and there can be no peace if our security depends on the will and whims of a ruthless and aggressive dictator.

no kidding. is he speaking about himself here???

...that America speaks with one voice and is determined to make the demands of the civilized world mean something.

BUUUUUUULLSHIT!!! no one fucking asked ME
how i feel about all this!!!

and i really appreciate bush pumping the
crowd for revelry behind sept. 11th.
how many times did he tout it???
it this some sort of subliminal BULLSHIT???

and just to add insult to injury...
i'll go ahead and say:

...By its past and present actions, by its technological capabilities, by the merciless nature of its regime, AMERICA is unique.

I AM HIGHLY PISSED!!!

I did not like Bush before, I do not like Bush at the present, I will probably not like Bush in the future either.

Thumbs up

there is no need to read any of bush's speeches. they all follow the same form:

"Lies, lies, lies, lies, lies, lies. God Bless America."

i agree, motives must be compared.

bush - if he can topple saddam, he can install a puppet regime which will more than likely be more violent to the masses than saddam, but will give the west what it wants (i.e access to any available oil). if you doubt this can happen, read What Uncle Sam Really Wants by Noam Chomsky. there is detailed information of the united states' past dealings with foreign dictators, and what has been done when they are overthrown.
now, there is really no concern, i believe, about victory. i doubt the iraqi army has greatly improved since the last time we were there. but a war does divert attention from bush's grand stupidity. this war has been the best thing for him. before september 11th, the only thing people could point out about him was his poor use of the english language (and the invention of several words - misunderestimated being my personal favorite). now, he can become a great military leader by defeating an enemy that has escaped us before.

saddam - the reason he invaded kuwait was that the british had taken that land from iraq in order to control the many oil fields in the area, and he was simply wanting to take back what was taken from his country. i wonder what would happen if a country like china or japan tried to conquer another country, would we try to stop them? or would we justify their actions because victory wasnt sure? back to saddam....i am sure he doesnt want to lose his political status. i am pretty certain that it is cool to be a supreme ruler over any country (no matter how shitty it is). by standing up to the west, he becomes a hero to all the surrounding countries that have been bullied by us before. those other countries, who are watching the u.s. go from one country to another saying that they are trying to defeat 'the terrorists' may join saddam knowing that they could be next. if there were to be some grand alliance of middle eastern nations, iraq would probably be the leader of those nations, since it is the one being attacked, and, since saddam would be the leader of the leading nation, he would become even more powerful.

but this is all just guesswork, and probably poor guesswork at that. but now that i have done all of this.....who cares about motive? does motive really make any difference?
